Sometimes we get asked how our food distribution operations actually work in practice.
It's a more than fair question.
You support us, you receive the photos every month… but what happens in between?
Here's a little look behind the scenes.
Before we set off
Everything starts with preparation.
We prepare the food: sometimes bags of kibble, other times chicken and rice, depending on what's available and the needs of the dogs in each area.
Before setting off, everything is divided into portions and prepared for transport.
Our local partners know the routes well.
They know the places where the dogs wait.
Some spots have been part of the regular routes for months now. The dogs living there have learned that food comes.
They wait for it.
Other spots are more recent.
We find them when someone reports a group of dogs in an area that wasn't previously part of the route.
And so the map keeps growing.
Out in the field
Our distributions take us to places that most people pass through without even noticing.
Behind markets.
Under bridges.
Near abandoned buildings.
Along quiet roads outside town.
Wherever there are dogs who have found themselves living together and have learned to survive.
Some already recognise the routine.
They hear the sound of the bags or the footsteps of our partners and begin to approach.
These are the ones we've already met.
They know what's about to happen.
Others are more wary.
New dogs.
Dogs who haven't yet understood that they can trust us.
They keep their distance, watch, and wait to see what happens.
Feeding time
We set down the bowls or distribute the food directly on the ground.
Then we step back.
This step matters.
Some dogs start eating right away: they're hungry and feel safe enough.
Others need space.
They won't approach until we've moved far enough away.
We don't rush them.
We don't try to touch them or get closer just to take a better photo.
We let them eat at their own pace.
Sometimes a dog finishes eating, looks up for a second, and walks away.
Sometimes it stays nearby, waiting to see if there's anything left.
Other times it disappears before we can even see where it's gone.
Every distribution is a little different.
After the distribution
After the dogs have eaten, we take photos.
Not only to show what we do.
To let you see the moments that your support has also helped make possible.
Real dogs.
Real places.
Real meals.
Some photos are sharp.
Others are blurry because a dog moved.
Some have poor light because we're under a bridge or because it's getting dark.
We share them anyway.
Because they're real.
And that's exactly the point of our monthly updates: to show you that all of this is really happening.
That's all there is to it
Simple. Consistent. Real.
No complicated organisation. No staging. Just food, dogs and people who keep showing up, day after day, to make sure those dogs have something to eat.
It's your support that allows us to keep going. To keep the routes running. To add new distribution points when we find more dogs that need help.
